Camden Council Deputation

Updated: May 17

We presented the environmental impact of polyester uniforms to Camden Council.

Over 11,000kg of CO2 and at least 60 billion microplastic fibres are released into the atmosphere, water, and air by Camden's year 7 students every year. This is the damage caused by polyester school blazers, PE t-shirts and shorts that Hugo Keane described to Camden Council's Children, Schools and Families Scrutiny Committee in our deputation on 11 November 2024. The Committee has since responded that the "Council acknowledges the potential environmental impacts that relate to the production of clothing and directly elements of school uniform." While the Council noted that it does not have statutory responsibility, it recognises "it's vital coordinating role" and that "Camden along with national and local partners will need to do more to effect lasting change within this area."
